European Human Rights Legal Research: Country Reports

To support the work of intergovernmental institutions, many nongovernmental organizations prepare country reports which document the human rights situation in a particular country or region of the world.  Below are a number of good sources for country reports.

The following bodies assist the Council of Europe in monitoring standards on civil, political, and social rights by its member states. 

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities

• Observations of Local Elections 

European Court of Human Rights - Country Factsheets

European Commissioner for Human Rights 

• Country Visits - Links to the documents associated with contact and assessment visits in accordance with the Convention mandate.
• NGO Reports - Links to reports by other NGO's.

European Social Charter (ESC)

• National Reports - Reports by government on their implentation of ESC
• Conclusions - Report by the ESC monitoring committee in response to the National Report
• Country Factsheets - Brief summary of ESC implementation
