Law Student Responsibility Agreement - Fall 2020

As a public institution of higher education, the FSU College of Law endeavors to do all we can to provide students with the in-person learning experiences that students desire during this global pandemic. It is our obligation to keep our community members safe and to comply with State, County, and University Rules, Laws and Guidelines regarding conduct on our law campus. To that end, we have substantially upgraded the air filters and modified air flow into the law campus buildings in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We have limited the hours of access into the buildings to ensure that each day begins with sanitized facilities. We will clean classrooms between classes and provide ample sanitizing materials for everyone to clean surfaces and sanitize hands throughout the day. Traffic flow and food provisioning will be altered, and in-person meetings will be modified or, when necessary, eliminated in order to ensure proper social distancing. We recognize that many students are in a very low risk pool in relation to COVID-19, but our faculty and staff take greater risks in order to provide students with in-person educational and support experiences. Even if you are not worried about your own risk of contracting COVID-19, we ask that you take responsibility for your community members as a condition of joining us in person this Fall.

Prior to returning to the law school campus and as a condition of participating in any in person classes during the Fall of 2020 at FSU College of Law, we ask each law student intending to join us in person to complete and submit this Law Student Responsibility Acknowledgement Form.

I understand that if I violate any of these responsibilities, I will be subject to having my authorized access to the law campus removed for the remainder of the semester. In that event, I will complete the semester as a remote student.

Fall 2020 Policies

In order to provide the safest environment possible for our patrons and staff, we ask that all patrons adhere to the following guidelines when using the Research Center's’ spaces:

Maintain social distancing by staying at least 6 feet (2 meters) from other people.
Wear CDC-compliant cloth face coverings at all times.
Wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
The library is for individual study only. No group study sessions or meetings are allowed.
The elevator is limited to one patron at a time.
Food and beverages are prohibited. Water bottles in covered, spill-proof containers is permitted.
Students will not leave personal belongings unattended in the Research Center.
Keep as much distance from others as possible when using stairwells.
Clean your study area before and after use. Sanitizing materials are available in these areas.
Clean shared copiers/computers before and after use. Sanitizing materials are available in these areas.
When using cleaning supplies, follow the precautions, application directions, and contact time according to instructions. This applies to: disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizers, sprays, disposable cleaning towels and hand soap.
After cleaning and disinfection, properly dispose of any wipes or cleaning supplies.
Use communal trash and recycling bins in main areas.
No moving of furniture.
Follow all posted circulation procedure guidelines.
Students are not allowed in posted staff areas.
The 2nd and 3rd floor is for quiet study.

For the duration of the fall semester:

All instruction, consultations, events, and reference will take place virtually. This includes weekly workshops and book-a-librarian consultations.
Interlibrary Loan and UBorrow will continue accepting requests for articles and book chapters, but services (including electronic and print delivery) are dependent on the availability of collections at partner libraries across the world. Please email ILL@law.fsu.edu with your request.
Librarian departmental office hours will be handled online. Please see our remote library guide tab above for details.
Study room use and reservation are not currently permitted.
Besides the restrooms, the first floor is unavailable at this time. If materials are needed from that floor, please see the circulation desk.
Patron donations will not be accepted until further notice. However, Special Collections & Archives, will work with potential donors on a case by case basis.

Fall Hours

Effective August 24, the Research Center space will be open to law faculty, staff and students during the following hours. Swipe card will be required for entry.

March 2020-Aug. 23, 2020- Book Return

Until August 23, if you checked out a book from the library and wish to return it, we have a book-drop available on the Jefferson St. side of the Research Center. It can be found on the wall between the student parking lot and the loading dock area of the Research Center.

For spring and summer 2020 checkouts, all students' due dates have been set forward to August 31, 2020. Returned books will be quarantined for at least a week before being returned to the shelves; please allow a few days for returned materials to be removed from your account.
