Journal Subciting Guide: WHEN TO USE LEDS (Library Express Delivery Service)

Searching the catalogs and requesting items from other libraries

What is LEDS?

LEDS stands for Library Express Delivery Service.  Designated law journal members are granted LEDS privileges to have materials they check out from other FSU libraries for law journal work delivered to, and picked up from, the Research Center Circulation Desk.

LEDS is only available for materials that are NOT in the Research Center but are available in other FSU libraries.  Remember that materials in the Research Center are selv-serve: you must retrieve them yourself and bring them to the Circulation Desk for checkout.

LEDS privileges are not granted automatically and may be revoked by the Research Center if they are abused or misused.

Do I have access to LEDS?

A small number of FSU law students have access to LEDS.  The editor-in-chief of each law journal determines each semester which members need LEDS privileges and give the Research Center a list of these students.  Only these students, plus those who are RAs for law professors, can utilize this service.

After you are told you have LEDS privileges, you will need to register with FSU libraries.  Follow the instructions at this link.

  • Register using your own name, your own e-mail address, and your own FSU Libraries account number.  FSU law journals do not have accounts.
    • You are responsible for any and all fines for overdue, damaged, and lost materials.
  • For department, select Law.
  • For status, select Teaching Assistant.
  • For ILL Confirmation, select NO.

To request an item available for checkout at another FSU library, start by filling out a LEDS Request at this link.

  • Use the same information here that you used in your registration: your own name, e-mail address, FSU Libraries account number, etc.
  • Make sure you select the correct category under Item Type.

You will get an e-mail when your item is ready to be picked up at the Research Center Circulation Desk.

To renew materials obtained through LEDS, log in to your FSU Libraries account and renew as you would normally. You MUST request renewal before an item's due date.

To return materials obtained through LEDS, just drop them off at the Research Center Circulation Desk.  We'll do the rest!
