The pre-recorded research workshops below were offered in both Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 of this past academic year. All 16 workshops are being offered again during the Summer Semester from May 27th to August 5th.

Legal writing is one of the most common activities in legal practice. In this presentation, you’ll go beyond basic spell check by exploring legal writing tools that will aid your writing process and increase your productivity.

When using legal citators like Shepard’s or KeyCite, signal indicators (such as stop signs or red flags) can be a handy tool for finding out which cases are “good law” – but they don’t tell the whole story. This workshop will discuss how citators work, provide some historical context, and go over the subjectivity inherent in determining “good law.”

In law school, we study the rules of procedure for criminal and civil cases, but all the motions, briefs, and complaints are filed into a chronological case file called a docket. This workshop will discuss the kinds of filings that are put into a court docket and how to research pending court cases. Using existing briefs and other filings as a template for your own drafting is a huge time saver, so learning to find these materials will be a help when you practice.
