Environmental crimes are found in the Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and the Comprehensive Environmental and Recovery Act (CERCLA). General criminal statutes that are used in prosecutions for environmental crimes include conspiracy (18 U.S.C. § 371), false statements (18 U.S.C. § 1001), mail fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1341), and wire fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1343).
