All law students are welcome to virtually attend workshops which usually become available every Monday at 8am in the Research Center's Canvas page.  We encourage everyone to register beforehand so we can easily contact you with information about each workshop.

Remote Viewing Information

The research workshops below are  pre-recorded 30-minutes sessions and will be available for viewing each Monday morning at 8am. Register by clicking the workshops below.  To receive credit for the research certificate program, students must (1) register for the workshop, (2) watch the presentation in its entirety, and (3) complete a short quiz. Quizzes must be completed within one week after the video is posted.

Available AUG 31 @ 8am   WEST ACADEMIC STUDY AIDS DIGITAL COLLECTION

Want to succeed in law school? This digital collection of easy-to-access to hornbooks, nutshells, and others, covers virtually every law school course you will take, including first-year subjects like Torts, Contracts, Civil Procedure, and Criminal Law. Learn how to access, create your individual account, and make the studying much easier. Quiz due by Sept 7th at 8am. Credit for Specialized Resources certificate.

Quimbee, a popular law school study aid on the web, provides expert-written case briefs, outlines, video tutorials, and practice questions with answers explanations.  Learn how to access, create your individual account, and make studying more productive. Quiz due by Sept 14th at 8am. Available SEPT 14 @ 8am    POWERNOTES

PowerNotes, a productivity tool freely available to all FSU law students, allows you to track your research and writing more productively.  Learn how to efficiently gather, organize, and track your internet research for any writing assignment. This presentation will focus on helping you get started and provide tips on the best ways to use it. Quiz due by Sept. 21 @8am. Credit for both Legal Technology and Specialized Resources certificates.

 

Available SEPT 21 @ 8am    CALI: Computer Assisted Legal Instruction

This platform is well-know for its great collection of interactive lessons written by law professors covering over 30 legal topics, including all first-year courses. Learn about these and all their other online books and resources. Quiz due by Sept. 28. Credit for Specialized Resources certificate.

Instructor MARGARET CLARK

To reap the benefits of the powerful legal information brokers like Lexis and Westlaw, you’ll need to become a proficient and confident user of these tools. This workshop will provide pointers on identifying relevant search terms, using logical connectors, and constructing successful searches. Instructor DYLAN DUNN

Learn about the federal legislative documents often used by attorneys and courts in determining intent or clarifying vague statutory language.  This session will explore various tools for locating compiled histories and specific documents. Quiz due by Oct. 12 @ 8am. Credit for Practice-Ready Research certificate.

Instructor QUINTERRION WAITS

A PDF is more than a fixed document sharing format. This workshop will teach you how to maximize your use of PDFs: from converting a MS Word document to a PDF to sending secure PDF files. Quiz due by Nov. 9 @ 8am.  Credit for Legal Technology certificate.
