What is Public International Law?

Public international law governs the relations between nations, between intergovernmental organizations, and between nations and intergovernmental organizations.  According to Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, the sources of pubic international law are:

  1. International treaties and conventions
  2. Customary international law
  3. General principles of law
  4. Judicial decisions and teachings of the most highly qualified publicists

What is Foreign Law?

Foreign law is the domestic or national law of a country other than the U.S. Foreign law deals with the constitutions, statutes, regulations and court decisions of a given country.
