Commonwealth Caribbean Law Research Guide: Montserrat

Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the northern part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. A series of natural disasters, including Hurricane Huge on 1989 and a volcanic eruption in 1995, destroyed the historic Capital at Plymouth and the current government sits in Brades. This includes the Governor, appointed by the Queen of England, and the 9-member Legislative Council of Montserrat, led by the Governor-appointed Premier. Montserrat is part of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, so its High Court and Court of Appeal are administered through the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court network.
