Commonwealth Caribbean Law Research Guide: St. Kitts & Nevis

A two-island country in the Leeward islands, St. Kitts and Nevis is a sovereign state in the British Commonwealth. The Queen acts as head of the constitutional monarchy and appoints a Governor-General, who runs the country with the guidance of the Prime Minister, the majority leader of the 14-member National Assembly. The country is part of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court guides the judiciary, which hears appeals from Magistrates and High Courts in St. Kitts and Nevis. The Capital, Basseterre, is where the treaty establishing the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States was signed and is the headquarters of the Eastern Caibbean Central Bank.
